Cinema Fantasma is a stop-motion animation studio based in Mexico City, founded in 2011 by brothers Arturo and Roy Ambriz. What began as a makeshift studio under a white tent on their parents’ rooftop has grown into one of the most distinctive stop-motion houses working anywhere. The Ambriz brothers write, direct and produce their work, which is known for handmade craft, bold cubist-inspired design and a love of Mexican folklore and history.
Since the studio’s earliest days, Guillermo del Toro has been a friend, mentor and creative guide to the brothers, offering counsel and support across projects throughout their journey. At the 2026 Morelia International Film Festival, del Toro publicly announced that he will produce Ballad of The Phoenix, Cinema Fantasma's next feature film, opening a new chapter in their creative relationship.
